2008 Petit Verdot wins Monticello Cup

This special wine was recently recognized as overall winner of the 20th annual Monticello Wine Trail competition which included entries from sixteen wineries in our appelation. This varietal has a loyal following in Virginia and we are delighted the spot light is showcasing one in our line up. Other wines receiving medals included the 2007 Meritage (gold), 2008 Merlot (silver) and 2009 Viognier (silver).

See the article, "Uncorking the Winners" in this link from the Daily Progress which talks about the event.

Another Gold for the Cabernet Franc Reserve

In another California based competition, this one the 2010 Grand Harvest Awards sponsored by Vineyard and Winery Management magazine, the 2007 Cabernet Franc reserve received yet another gold. Bronzes were won by the 2007 Merlot and the popular Durant White, a light blend of all our white wines.

Sunsets in the Vineyard

The property is beautiful especially at sunset with the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains against the pond. We plan on extending our hours on the last Friday of each month, beginning in June through October so that you can enjoy the setting as we do. There will be food from local caterers and live music until sun down.

The dates are June 25th, July 30th, August 27th, September 24th and October 29th.

Bottling Nearly Complete

Our first bottling of the new year occurred in mid-January. As in the past it included our pinot gris, viognier, rosé, Durant white, and Durant red. Some of these 2009 wines were released the end of April and the balance will be available by the end of May.

The second bottling occurred mid-February when the 2008 cabernet franc, merlot and petit verdot were scheduled. The third bottling took place in April. This included the 2008 meritage and 2009 chardonnay which aged longer in French oak barrels.

We have two exceptional wines to bottle in July. The first is the 2008 cabernet sauvignon, which will have spent 20 months in French oak. The second is our Mille Fleurs, a white port style wine made from viognier. This has been a hit at our wine dinners, enoyed at meal’s end. This wine will be available in 375 ml bottles and in a limited production of 88 cases.
